Network & Systems Engineer II



Primary Responsibilities

  • Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems
  • Manages and configures network hardware and software, operating systems and attached devices
  • Interprets and implements security baseline configurations for all system components
  • Documents with high accuracy as-built and production level documentation
  • Briefs and interacts with evaluation teams as needed
  • Creates and maintains as-built and other systems drawings (flowcharts, diagrams and other documentation)
  • Configures, monitors, and maintains servers to ensure network and system integrity
  • Analyzes user requirements, procedures, and problems to automate or improve existing systems
  • Troubleshoots technical issues, and develops and implements solutions
  • Identifies system integrity issues and solutions for the full system life cycle
  • Conducts technical training and product briefings with customers
  • Supports operational and maintenance phase for as-built systems
  • Supports data center operational responsibility
  • Participates in special projects as requested


Required Technical Skills

  • Design, implementation, and support of network infrastructures
  • Engineering life cycle – assessment, solutions design, testing, documentation, implementation
  • Link aggregation, spanning tree, span/rspan and tracing network issues
  • Virtualization (VMware) proficiency
  • Expert knowledge of Cisco technologies; voice experience required; CCNP preferred
  • Routing/switching/firewalls/VPN design and implementation; extensive practical experience with technical implementation; multi-vendor experience strongly preferred
  • VoIP implementation and troubleshooting
  • Working knowledge of Linux (Centos)
  • Working knowledge of Certificate Authority topologies and implementation techniques
  • Preferred skills: Motorola WAVE, Land Mobile Radio, and Mesh radio networking


Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • 5+ years of experience in relevant network and systems engineering including analysis, design, and installation
  • Effective training and technical presentation skills
  • Strong communication, problem solving, and analytic skills
  • Capable of lifting and moving computer equipment up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work well under pressure and time constraints
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and/or weekends as necessary
  • Position requires the ability to obtain a security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship
