Linux/Unix System Administrator

Primary Responsibilities

  • Installs, configures, and maintains Linux/Unix software
  • Plans, designs, and develops system improvements to optimize processes
  • Applies patches, manages file systems, and monitors performance of Unix/Linux and firewall systems
  • Defines system requirements and system goals, and identifies and resolves systems issues
  • Works with engineers to ensure compatibility of LAN applications and peripheral hardware
  • Oversees deployment of new systems, versions and maintenance modifications to software
  • Supports security vulnerability scanning
  • Works with software vendors to provide optimum system performance and availability
  • Manages changes in hardware/software environment for assigned projects
  • Participates in special projects as required

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 4+ years of systems administration experience providing LAN support in Linux/Unix environment
  • Experience with VMware
  • Version control experience preferred
  • Must be able to work effectively in a small team environment with minimal supervision
  • Self-starter with ability to learn quickly and complete tasks on time, working within strict deadlines
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and/or weekends as necessary
  • Position requires ability to obtain a security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship
